Himalayan red rice is an ancient grain of Uttarakhand Himalayas grown from time immemorial in this region. This pack of red rice is sourced from the middle Himalayan region of Mandakini river basin.
Due to the presence of a component called anthocyanin, this rice is usually consumed either partially hulled or unhulled. Red rice derives its eye-grabbing colour from this component and has much more nutrient value as compared to other varieties of rice. What makes this variant of rice, a healthy choice is the red husk, which is loaded with the goodness of nature. Red rice has lots of fibre, due to the bran, and the flavour is significantly more powerful compared to hulled rice, tasting more nutty and full. Its abundant fibre helps establish a healthy digestive system. It is a rich source of potassium, manganese, iron, zinc, vitamin B1 and B2, together with other valuable minerals. It also provides antioxidants that help defend cells from damage caused by potentially harmful molecules known as free radicals. Authentic Himalayan red rice is quite rare so it comes at a high cost.
